Memorial Services for William Lee “Bill” Sweeny, 85, of Sweeny, Texas, will be Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home, Angleton, Texas, Apostle R. L. Simmons, Jr. officiating.

Bill passed peacefully on February 6, 2025 at Harbor Hospice, in Houston.

He was born on January 28th, 1940 in Chance’s Prairie(Old Ocean) where he grew up on a farm. Bill graduated from Carver High school, where he was the Salutatorian, and he also went to Texas College before going to the military.

He served honorably in the Airforce where he was based in Turkey and specialized in morse code.

Bill liked riding his Harley Davidson in his younger years. He had a love for geography and could name every state, state capital, city, county/parish in alphabetical order. He also could name every country in the world. He enjoyed road trips, oftentimes he would jump in his truck and just ride- never needing navigation, because he always knew where he was going. William also enjoyed getting the daily newspaper to complete crossword puzzles and sudoku.  He loved spending time with his friends at all the local VFW halls, playing cards and dominoes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Sweeny; mother, Eliza Lee; father, Raymond Sweeny; daughter, Guadalupe Cortez; son, Anthony Bigger; sister, Ruby Washington and brothers, Jesse Sweeny, Marshall Sweeny, Raymond Sweeny Jr., Lionel Sweeny.

Bill leaves precious memories with his daughters; Jackie Johnson, Norma Farm (Dennis) both of Las Vegas, NV, Cynthia Bell(Michael), Brazoria, Zabrina Dixon(Terrance), Fresno, Yvonne Garcia(Sergio), Sealy, Vivian Green, Houston, Gloria Boldt, Galveston, Juanita Whiddon; sons, William Sweeny Jr., Kingsville, Freddie Bonner, Sweeny; and a great number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
