William Joe Clifton, (Billy Joe), 80, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 20th, 2021 after a hard fought battle with cancer. BJ is the only child of William Leslie Clifton and Mable Frizzle Hubbard Clifton. BJ is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn Faye Hendrick Clifton. Her brother & his only brother in law John Lee Hendrick and Wife Sandy of Tyler Tx. Two sons, William Lee Clifton, of Angleton, & John Michael Clifton & Wife Beverly Clifton, of Port O’ Connor. BJ & Carolyn lost their loving daughter Cindy Jo Clifton in 2005. In addition to their children they have loved 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many cousins and other family members.

BJ was born September 19, 1941 in Matagorda County TX. He moved to the family homestead in Brazoria at the age of 6 months. He lived out his life working and raising his family there. He worked at the Clements Unit Correctional Facility and retired in 2008 from Brazoria County where he worked for road and bridges department.

He and Carolyn spent time at The Hut enjoying the company of many friends. Wilbur Patterson, Ray Peavy, Garland Lucas could always be found with BJ watching football & NASCAR racing. He loved cars and passed on his mechanic skills to his sons.


He enjoyed shrimping, fishing, or four wheeling with friends on the beach in Sargent Tx. He loved family reunions, BBQ, beer and served his friends and family by helping cook and participate in many local benefits.

He and Carolyn relaxed many days sitting in their barn enjoying nature and listening to their favorite old country and Elvis music or watching his favorite John Wayne movies.

BJ will be cremated according to his wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
