With profound sadness we announce the passing of Virgie, our loving and devoted mother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. She went home to receive her crown in heaven on March 11, 2025.
She left us while sleeping peacefully and quietly, just as she lived. She was in her 97th year.
She is the mother of Joyce Marie Bullard (deceased), Mary Doris Bullard, Thelma Lee Bullard-Jackson, Erma Jeannette Bullard, Jessie Faye Mack (deceased), Danny Maurice Fomby, Jacqueline Barrett and CaCina Len Barrett.
She is preceded in death by her father, Maurice Barrett and mother, Albertha Jackson-Barrett, husbands, Aurthur Bullard and Emeal Fomby; daughters, Joyce Marie Bullard and Jessie Faye Mack; son-in-law, Vernon Mack and her grandson, Justin Jamal Mack.
She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Virgie grew up in the Mound Creek Community where she confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul A. M. E. Church where she worshiped and was a devoted member until death.
Virgie attended Charlie Brown Elementary and High School in West Columbia, TX, where she was a star basketball player.
Virgie was a wife, homemaker and mother to her eight children. To her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was the greatest and most loving mother.
She loved reading and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her beloved daughter Joyce, to watch the Roughnecks play football. She loved watching TV game shows, especially Steve Harvey’s Family Feud. She also loved watching professional sports and she loved singing. She enjoyed having her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in her presence.
Virgie loved fishing, cooking and baking; especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and oh how she loved fried oysters……
Most of all, she loved her family and will be dearly missed. She will forever live in our hearts.
A Celebration of Virgie’s Life will be held at St. Paul A. M. E. Church in West Columbia, TX (Mound Creek), on March 23, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Arthur Ferguson, officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery in West Columbia, TX.
