Funeral services for Roy Lester Townsend, Sr., 75, of Brazoria, TX will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Freeport with Rev. K. W. Bree, officiating and Rev. R. W. Griggs, Sr., eulogizing. He will be buried at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
Roy passed away on Monday, April 14 at Micheal E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX.
He served as Deacon at First St. Emmanuel Baptist Church. In younger years he was a saxophonist in an R & B Band. He also served and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He was also employed at Dow Chemical as an operator for 34 years.
Roy loved to travel and listen to Gospel and R & B Music. He also enjoyed being a Handyman around the house and the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emmit Schuyler; sisters, Delores Faye Earl, Carolyn Ann Harris, Corrine Turk; brother, Charles Turk.
Roy leaves fond memories with his wife, Yolanda Kendrick Townsend; mother, Erma Townsend Turk Bryant; sons, Roy Townsend, Jr. (Marcella), Errick Townsend, Steven Townsend, Troy Townsend; bonus daughters, LaKeisha Solis (Mac), LaToya Clower; sister, Joyce Turk Livingston; sisters-in-law, Charlotte K. Heard, Melva Mack (Larry), Helen Griggs (Rodney) Vina Randell (Greg); brother-in-law, Matthew King, Jr.; 10 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, April 25, 2025 at Dixon Funeral Home – Angleton from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be James Heard, Errick Williams, Archiel Townsend, Jaquwan Townsend, Rodney Griggs, Jr. and Al’Vontres Glass.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Townsend, Jr., Eric Townsend, Steven Townsend, Troy Townsend, Greg Randell, Larry Mack, Matthew King, Jr. and Herman Perkins, Sr.
