Funeral services for Robert Lee Lewis, Sr., 72, of West Columbia, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Greater Mt. Zion Church, 6437 FM 521, Brazoria, TX with Rev. Lynn Phipps eulogizing.  Burial will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Brazoria.

Robert passed away at HCA Pearland on Monday, August 22, 2022.

He was a former member of Galilee Baptist Church and Jerusalem Baptist Church and later united with Burrell Chapel Baptist Church (Bailey’s Prairie community).  He was a member of Fishers of Men in the Hinkles Ferry Community and a Union Steward for Local 564 Operators.

He attended G. W. Carver for 10 years where they won the State Football Championship in 1965.  He excelled in track and set several records before graduating from Sweeny High School with the Class of 1968.

He retired as an operator from The Dow Chemical Company.  He enjoyed muscle cars, playing dominoes, listening to music, barbequing, fishing and pawn shopping.  He also enjoyed smoking his signature 24kt Tobacco, drinking Budweiser and Jack Daniels and collecting pipes and decanters.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Lewis and Katie Moore Lewis; sister, Betty Thompson; brother, Nathan Lewis, Jr.; nephew Phillip Smith III; niece, Sharion Parker; stepmother, Dorothy Lewis and step-brother, Frankie Williams.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Lonita Lewis of West Columbia; sons, Robert Lewis, Jr. (Stacy) of Brazoria, Greg Lewis (Melinda) of Lake Jackson, Broderick Gartica of Bay City and Chadwick Anthony Lewis of West Columbia; daughter, Roxie Gartica of Bay City; sister, Eliza Smith of Angleton; brother, Ruben Glenn; uncle, Randolph Mack (Gladys); aunts, Elizabeth Godley and Rebecca Grice, all of Brazoria; devoted mother-in-law, Loretta Washington of West Columbia; sister-in-laws, Rosalind Thomas, Kayan Jones, Tamara McKay, Michelle Davidson-Thomas, Shalonda Lenued-Thomas and Debra Williams; brother-in-laws, Sterling Thomas (Vickie) and Nelson Thomas; good friends, Clayton Fields, Roosevelt Johnson, Sr., Roosevelt Johnson, Jr., Marcus Bonner, Penn Johnson and Ronnie Harris; his fellow Latex Department coworkers; surviving members of the Sweeny High School Class of 1968; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Active pallbearers will be Marcus Bonner, Kevin Brown, Clayton Fields, Matthew Spears, Blake Thomas and Nelson Thomas.

Visitation will be Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home – Angleton.
