Robert Lee Bess

Funeral services for Robert Lee Bess, 79, of Sweeny, TX, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria with Pastor Darrell James officiating and Elder Roland K. Hendricks eulogizing. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Brazoria.

Robert passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his home in Sweeny.

Robert was honorably discharged from the army and was a retired steel man at Phillips. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and playing baseball.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Neal Sr. and Mattie Bess; son, Robert Kendall Brown; brother, Will Bess; sisters, Cora Boulden and Ida Martindale and sister-in-law, Annette Bess.

Robert leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife, Melba Bess of Sweeny; sons, Michael Brown of Houston, Robbie Williams of Bay City, Roshon Bess of Sweeny and Keith Bess of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Armentha Williams of Houston and Tanja Ward (Chad) of Brazoria; brothers, Neal Bess, Jr. (Audrey) of Sweeny, Anthony Bess (Jackie) of Clute, John Bess (Sun) of North Carolina and Jessie Roy Bess, Sr. of Old Ocean; mother-in-law, Ernestine Robinson of Brazoria; sister-in-law, Rosalind Kay Bonner (Marcus) of Brazoria; brothers-in-law, Duane Randon (Denise) of Lake Jackson and Walter Robinson of Brazoria; goddaughter, LaTonya Dailey of Brazoria; best friend, Clifford Bernard of Cedar Lake; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bess, Reggie Bess, Jr., Roshon Bess, Marcus Bonner, Eric Thomas, Byron Randon, Chad Ward and Chad Ward II.

Visitation will be the same day as the service from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
