Rickey Daryl (Popeye) Smith

Rickey Daryl Smith, 73, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1952, in Angleton, Texas, to Mary Alice Smith and Leroy Ray Smith.

He lived a life defined by devotion to his family, an unwavering work ethic, and a lifelong love of sports and staying active. He loved God deeply and carried a steadfast faith throughout his life, never wavering in his belief even through life’s challenges. He cherished his family and friends deeply and took immense pride in his grandchildren. He also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Abe.

Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alice and Leroy Ray Smith; his in‑laws, JoAnn and Thomas Patrick; and his granddaughter, Alexis Lawrence.

Rickey leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 53 years, Tommie Ann Patrick Smith; son, Samuel Smith; daughter, Leigh Anne Marcelle (Moses); brothers, Lynn Gillespie (Judy) and Donnie Smith (Jana); best friend, Kaye Kelly and his grandchildren, Evelyn Marcelle and Madison Marcelle; and three great‑grandchildren.

From an early age, Rickey had a natural passion for athletics. He excelled as an all‑around athlete, playing football, running track, and playing baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his life. He coached Sam’s baseball and football teams and enjoyed working out at the gym, bowling, and golfing. Staying active brought him joy, purpose, and lasting friendships.

After selling his portion of the family business, Smith Welding Works, Rickey dedicated many years to Peerless Pump, where he served as Shop Superintendent until his retirement. He was admired for his leadership, his integrity, and the pride he took in every task.

Rickey will be remembered for his strength, determination, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy of hard work, perseverance, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed.

Celebration of Life will be on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. -  6:30 p.m. at Courtyard by Marriott Lake Jackson, 159 SH 288, Lake Jackson, Texas.
