Philip A. Stalkup, 75, died peacefully on December 16, 2024, at his home in Angleton, Texas. Phil grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he developed a lifelong passion for asking questions and seeking answers. This curiosity began in childhood when he would take apart mechanical devices, much to his mother's dismay, and continued throughout his career in aerospace engineering. In retirement, he built and flew model helicopters, tinkered with cars, and pondered mathematical theorems.
Phil expressed his inquisitiveness in his relationships with family and friends by asking thoughtful questions, sharing his wisdom, and giving unique gifts. He was someone you could rely on—ready to "give you the shirt off his back." Known for his wisdom and quick wit, he often said things like, "Old age is simply a case of mind over matter. If I don't mind, it doesn't matter," paraphrasing Mark Twain.
Friends and family knew Phil as a person who made friends quickly, never met a stranger, and was an avid fan of movies and current events. Everyone could count on him for movie recommendations or updates on the latest news.
He is survived by his sister, Shean Stalkup; his daughters, Nickie Brecht, Samantha Holler, and Kathleen Thornbrugh; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Patricia Stalkup, and four brothers, Lance, Eric, Brett R., and Trace.
Phil will be laid to rest with his parents and his brothers at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming this spring.
Rest in peace, 'Wonder-Phil.'
