Peggy Duke Obituary

Our beloved Mother, Peggy Jean Brooks Duke of Brazoria, TX passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021 at the remarkable age of 91. She was born to the late John Brooks and Lela Faye Minze Brooks on February 1, 1930 in Sweeny, TX.

Our mom was a loving beautiful person who married and loved her husband, Clarence Edward (Ed Duke), for over 60 years.  Together they raised two daughters and one son in a stable and happy home. She loved being a stay at home mom. Her home was her haven and she took so much pride In it. She was a mom to all our friends and whoever entered her door.  She kept a well organized home, wonderful meals at the table as a family, and loved to sew clothes for her two daughters. She protected and loved her family. She also loved to read especially as she aged. She said it kept her mind strong and active.

Peggy was the last remaining sibling of her large Brooks family to enter Heaven, see Jesus, and be reunited with her family. She took pride in being from Sweeny. She would tell us stories of how she grew up with all the longtime Sweeny area families.  Until her passing, we had five living generations that she was very proud of.

My mom also loved her friends and neighbors in Garden Acres and later in Sloping Acres in Brazoria. You could come through her back door and always smell her favorite Folgers coffee brewing. She made the best pies with the tallest meringue. Her homemade pancakes were a special sleepover treat for our teenage friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence Edward Duke, her only son, Darrell Edward (Bubba) Duke; great granddaughter Bree Ann Chupp; brothers, Johnnie, Chester, Cleo, Harold, and John Brooks;  sisters, Mary, Vera, Catherine Cothron, Pearl Harvill and Ettie Fae Caldwell, many much loved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Kathleen Chupp and Doris Ann Thompson and husband Jim. She is also survived by six grandchildren Lance Clinton, Katrina Clinton Weber and  husband Patrick, Bren Chupp, Chaz Chupp, Jimmy Thompson Jr. and wife Vonessa, and Tiffany Thompson Neely. She had 16 great grandchildren, Hailey, Clinton, Parker, Carter, Jordan, Jacey, Hayden, Ian, Brayden, Julia, Lynzi, Dakota, Mason, Bryson, Miranda, Kinley and three great great grandchildren

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great Grandsons.

Honorary pallbearer will be Jim Thompson.

Special thanks to all relatives and friends that visit and helped our sweet Momma. She loved you all.
