Melvin Grice, Sr.
“Dewbug”
A Celebration of Life Service for Melvin Grice, Sr., 90, of Brazoria, will be Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria, TX with Pastor Booker T. Randon, officiating and Pastor Zachary Thomas eulogizing. Burial will follow at Mims Cemetery in Brazoria, TX.
He passed away on June 20, 2021.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Melvin was a life-long resident of Brazoria and attended school in the Hinkle Ferry Community. In his early years of employment, he worked for Tellepsen Construction and then for the Dow Chemical Company where he retired with 15 years of service.
Melvin was an avid farmer and he loved raising cattle and chickens. His greatest legacy was the love for his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Glover Grice; daughters, Jaquilyn Fuller and Debra Ward; sons, Clayton Johnson and Silvester Simple; brothers, Alvin Grice, Sherman Grice, John Grice, Jr. and Nathaniel Grice; and sister, Angy Bell Thompson; sister-in law, Corine Grice; grandchildren Aisha Fuller and Cayla Simple.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 54 years, Espanola Simple Grice of Brazoria, Texas; daughters: Linda Fuller (Eugene), Deborah Ann Grice, Melvin Jean Beasley, Tonita Grice (Cliff), and Catherine Garrett (Victor); sons: Carnell Grice (Cecile) and Christopher Grice (Renee); Children he took part in as raising as his own: Linda Anderson (Henry), Judie Simmons (Raymond), Charles Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Jeremy Grice, and April Grice Foston (Andrew); one sister-in-law, Rebecca Mack Grice, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria, TX.
Active pallbearers will be Marcus Sowell, Sr., Craig Grice, Lyndon Ward, Frederick Grant, Jarrett Mitchell, and Andrew Foston.
Virtual services will be available via Facebook live at www.facebook.com/greatermountzionchurch.
Due to the COVID-19 Virus, everyone must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
