Mason Roylen (Roy) Edwards, 82, of Livingston, Texas, formerly River’s End (Brazoria) Texas, passed away on September 23, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.
Roy was born on 7-16-1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Robert William Edwards and Velma Earlene Edwards. After Roy graduated from Baylor University with a BA in Business Administration, he went to work for Sears Robuck followed by Hostess Cake and Frito Lay, Highland Distributing (Coors Distributor), and Bluebonnet Brands (beer and wine distributor), then the Harris County Sheriff’s Dept. He retired as a Master Peace Officer.
In 1986, he met and married his second wife of 37 years, Janice R. Edwards. They retired and moved to River’s End, Texas in 2004. He spent his retirement tirelessly working on re-opening the San Bernard River - his passion. He was an avid fisherman all his life and enjoyed sharing his talent and love for the sport - especially with children. He took classes to become a weighmaster for REVFD’s fishing tournament, Port Freeport’s Take a Child Fishing, and Freeport Host Lions Fishin’ Fiesta.
He gave freely of his talents to many Brazoria County Events: opening the mouth of the San Bernard River, Brazoria County Day, River’s End Volunteer Fire Dept., Brazoria and Freeport Host Lions’ Club events and fundraisers and vision screening, and submitting articles for The Bulletin.
He is preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janice R. Edwards, his children from his first marriage, Daughter Shirlene Sherry Edwards (Pettijohn) and her husband, James Pettijohn, and his son, Robert Roylen Edwards: his sister, Georgia Romelle Edwards and a host of other relatives and friends.
As in life, he continues to help others by donating his body to medical research.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Brazoria Heritage Foundation Auditorium, 204 W. Smith Street, Brazoria, Texas 77422 on October 11, 2023 at 11 a m.
