Mary Helen Garza, 83, of Angleton, formerly of West Columbia, passed away at her home on Friday, April 24, 2026. Graveside funeral services will be held at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia, TX, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Mary Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth and spirit brought joy to all who knew her. She was a true blessing to her family—known for her fun-loving nature and the love she shared so freely. Mary Helen enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time visiting with friends and family. She was also a dedicated, longtime volunteer at the Columbia Christian Senior Citizens Center in West Columbia, where she formed many meaningful friendships and gave generously of her time.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Garza; her grandmother, Margarita Garza; her longtime partner, Richard Oliver; and her former husband, Reynaldo “Ray” Garza.
Mary Helen is survived by her eight children: Rudy Garza, Tim Garza, David Hernandez, Sarah Sanford, Terri Mora (Pat), Angie Stewart, Delores Hudgeons (Donald), and Donna Valdepena; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and many other family and friends.
Active pallbearers will be David Surgent, Brian Secrist, Chad Vanhoy, Kent Hudgeons, Raymond Soliz and Grayson Long.
