Funeral services for Larry Darnell Strauther, 73, of Lake Jackson, Texas, will be Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at Greater Mount Zion, with Rev. Tyrone Ward, eulogizing. Burial will follow at Gulf Coast Cemetery in Clute, Texas.
Larry was born on March 27, 1951, in Wharton, Texas, to Sam and Dorothy Strauther. Raised by his paternal grandparents, Ollistine and Basset Strauther, in Pledger, Texas, Larry grew up surrounded by love and strong family values.
He attended Boling public schools for most of his education before transferring to Brazosport High School, where he graduated in 1969. Shortly after, Larry embarked on a lifelong career with Dow Chemical Company, where he dedicated over three decades of service before retiring. Retirement, however, didn’t slow him down—he became self-employed, using his own truck for hauling work, a profession that allowed him to maintain his independence and hardworking spirit.
Larry had a deep love for the outdoors, especially being on the water with his boat and fishing. He found joy in simple pleasures, like gathering with family and friends, firing up the barbecue pit, and enjoying the sounds of down-home blues, old-school R&B, and classic tunes. His backyard became a cherished space where laughter, music, and good company came together.
A man of routine and relaxation, Larry enjoyed reclining in his favorite chair or stretching out on the couch to watch his beloved black-and-white television shows, with westerns being his all-time favorites.
Larry was a member of Bethel Full Gospel Baptist Church in Freeport, Texas, where he found spiritual community and strength.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Dorothy Strauther; brothers, Samuel (Sammy) Strauther, Carl Wayne Strauther, Dennis Strauther, Garry Strauther, Rodney Strauther; sister, Vivian Strauther.
Larry leaves precious memories with his sons, Larnell Strauther, Carnell Strauther, Gayland Strauther (Gena), all of Lake Jackson, Lamonte Strauther (Catunya) of Cibolo; daughter, Danielle George (James) of Pearland, and a bonus daughter, Kenedi Allen of Pearland; brother, Bassett “Bubba” Strauther of Houston; aunt, Mary Ann Sanders of Freeport; a best friend, Daryl LeBlanc (Sheryl) of Beaumont, good friends, J.P. Thomas of Brazoria, Raymond Backmon (Peggy) of Lake Jackson; and a special friend, Cynthia Allen of Pearland; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be 10:30 -11:00 a.m. on the day of the service.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Angleton at (979) 849-8800.
