Juanita (Shorty) Newman, 61, of Brazoria, TX, sadly passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026. She was born in Texas City, TX to William (Bill) Rothwell and Erleen Rothwell.
At a young age, Juanita moved to Rivers End from Kemah, where she spent almost all of her life. She spent many days of her childhood on shrimp boats and running the roads of the river. She was the life of the party anywhere she went without even trying, lighting up any room with the beautiful smile that she had. She worked at McCoy’s for about 26 years where she met lots of people and became good friends with many. She loved to cook, loved her plants, but most importantly loved and cherished her kids and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Erleen Rothwell; nieces April Renee Franco and Tracy Allen; and her beloved son Kyle Leago.
Juanita is survived by her husband Perry Newman; daughter Megan Newman; son Michael Leago; sister Trisha Ramirez; brother Willie Rothwell (Michelle); her three grandchildren Madilyn, Waylon, and Finn; nieces, Tasha Cooper, Debra Goodrum, and Crystal Ramirez; as well of her best friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Rivers End Fire Department date TBA.
Final arrangements entrusted by Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria at (979)798-9113.
