Jose Maria Mosqueda passed away peacefully at his residency on Sunday April 13, 2025. Known to many as “Uncle Joe”, he was named after his grandfather Jose Maria Mosqueda of the Rio Grande Valley. He was born in Damon, Tx on Jan 15, 1949. He grew up in Angleton, Tx. where he left school at an early age to help support the family after his father’s death. Growing up in a difficult time, he took on the responsibility of caring for an extended family.
He started as a carpenter and concrete finisher. Then became a self-taught welder working at many fab shops located in Brazoria County that included Ramsower’s Blacksmith and Fabrication, Smith’s Welding, Richmond Tank Car, K&L Welding, Chem Fab, and Freeport Welding.
To know him, you knew a simple, hardworking man. He knew no other way. He worked hard and played hard. He was generous and forgiving, opening his home to those in need, often feeding those who had little or who were traveling through town. He had a passion for weightlifting and was an umpire for local youth baseball leagues and the Gulf Coast Amateur Baseball League.
He is preceded in death by his son Markie Ordonez, his parents Guadalupe and Manuela Mosqueda, sisters Tomasa Calderon and Mary Jane Mata, brothers Jose Angel also known as “Chankito”, Salvador, Domingo, Nicanor, and Donato.
He is survived by his daughters Vanessa Duncan (Randy) and Karyn Layne Gomez (Rene). His sons Joey Mosqueda (Lorrie) of Amarillo and Pete Jason Mosqueda of Lake Jackson. He had 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. His sisters, Josephina Cervantes, Lupe Fuentes, Elida Escobedo, Sandra Mosqueda of Houston, and Barbara Gonzales of Austin, and his brother Javier Mosqueda (Teresa) of Jones Creek.
A special thanks to Living Legacy and Kacie McMillan for their tender care during his stay.
A Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1713 N. Tinsley Street, Angleton, TX on April 28, 2025. As per his wishes, he’ll be cremated and his ashes buried with his mother and father at Angleton Cemetery immediately afterwards.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Angleton at (979) 849-8800.
