Jimmy Thomas Smith

Jimmy Thomas Smith, 84, of Brazoria, Texas passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021. He was born on July 1, 1936 in Wharton, Texas to Jesse and Gertrude Smith.

Jimmy married the Love of His Life and Best Friend, Sarah Jinks Smith on December 31, 1981.  They spent 39 wonderful years together before Jimmy left us to be with our Lord. 

Jimmy served as a Deacon of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. He was a member of St. Joseph on the Brazos Catholic Church, Brazoria, Texas.  He served as the Director of C.C.E., a member of the Men’s Club and Helping Hands at St. Joseph.  Jimmy was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the Serrra Club of Brazoria County.  Jimmy served on the Columbia-Brazoria ISD School Board.  He enjoyed coaching Youth Girls Softball and Boys Basketball.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Gertrude Smith;  infant son, Thomas Lee Smith; his brothers, J.L. Prather, Douglas Smith, Ervin Smith, Frank Smith, John Robert Smith, and Jesse Smith, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Smith of Brazoria, TX; daughters, Laurie Smith Groth (Michael) of Angleton, TX and Dena Smith Ford (Will) of Sanger, TX; step-daughter, Mary Elizabeth Champagne of Brazoria, TX; sons, Jacob Smith and Jonathan Smith of Brazoria, TX; step-son, Jonathan Champagne (Anita) of Brazoria TX; brother-in-law, Hadley Jinks (Patsy) of Shepherd, TX; 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren; Good friend – Steve Steigerwald and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services for Jimmy will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at St. Joseph on the Brazos Catholic Church, 219 CR 762, Brazoria, TX.  A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrating the life of Jimmy at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Tin Pham.
