George Barnes "Kenny" Obituary

George Kenneth Barnes was born on July 08, 1952 to the late Mr. Lewis Barnes Sr. and Mrs. Harriett Barnes in Clute, Texas. George was the sixth child of twelve children.

George passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2022 in Freeport, TX.

He graduated from Brazoswood High School Class of 1970. In 1974, at age 21 he graduated from US Marine Corps basic training in San Diego, CA.

George was a member of Victory Temple Holiness Church in Brazoria, TX. He worked in construction for many years. And in his later years, spent his time commercial shrimping. He enjoyed fishing and shrimping. He loved “being on that water man!”

George was known as a people’s person and a stranger to few. He spent many hours on end talking to or messaging family/friends on Facebook. He loved his family dearly and was Uncle Kenny to many. He also enjoyed listening to zydeco music and playing dominos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Harriett Barnes; sisters, Maggie Barnes and Harriett Barnes Hood; brothers, Christopher, John, Johnny and Samuel Barnes; brother-in-law, Doyle Simon.

George leaves precious memories with wife, Catherine Simon Barnes, his sons, Kenneth M. Barnes (ChaQuania), George K. Barnes, Christopher K. Barnes (Guadalupe) of Houston; daughters, Tamara Jackson (Darrell) of Houston, TX, LaSondra Barnes Howard (Bryant) of Dayton, TX; sisters, Mary Barnes Simon of Wharton, TX, Annie Barnes Roberson (Wayne) of Houston, TX, Willie M. Barnes Brown (Curtis) of Richwood, TX; brothers, Lewis Barnes Jr. (Carol) of Pearland, TX, Donald Ray Barnes (Donna) of Angleton, TX; best friend, Ben Snyder; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
