Charles Mathis
Funeral services for Charles Mathis, 69, of Sweeny will be Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria with Elder Roland K. Hendricks officiating and Rev. Darrell James, Sr. eulogizing. Burial will follow on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Abernathy Cemetery in Abernathy, Texas.
He passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Sweeny Community Hospital in Sweeny, Texas.
He was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brazoria where he served as a minister and loved preaching. He was an educator where he taught 30 years at Sweeny ISD and 25+ years part time at Brazosport College. His greatest joy was teaching, mentoring children, fishing, barbecuing and gardening. He loved spending quality time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Wilbert Byrd Mathis and Olean Alexander Mathis; sister, Christine Cross and great grandson, Paxton Mathis.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving and devoted wife, Vanessa Mathis, Sweeny; son, Damon Mathis (Alicia); sisters, Marjorie Green and Coleen Miller; brothers, Joe Mathis, Franklin Mathis and Harry Mathis (Mable); good friends, Norman Morgan (Jennifer), Angleton, Jessie Anderson (Annette), Brazoria and James Lester; 3 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria

Due to the COVID-19 Virus, everyone must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
