“Catch-Up”

Funeral services for Earnest Davidson, 79, of Bay City will be Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 1208 Avenue C, Bay City, Texas with L.C. Cunningham, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Van Vleck, TX.

He passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Matagorda Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bay City, TX.

On May 1, 1940, in Wadsworth, Texas, a bouncing baby boy was born to John Edgar Davidson, Sr. and Leola Edwards Davidson, who was named Earnest Davidson. He was affectionately called “Catch-Up” by his family and friends (a nick name given to him by his high school coach).

Earnest attended Hilliard High School in Bay City, Texas, where he participated in football and track. He was a star on their football team and they won the State Championship.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor L. C. Cunningham, Jr.

As far as his interests, he loved landscaping, golfing, playing dominoes, cards, shooting pool, watching sports, and spending time with his family.  He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Those who knew and loved him will remember his kind gentle spirit and sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leola Davidson;  sons, Glen Allen, Matthew Davidson, and Paul Davidson; daughter, Felicia Austin; brothers, Elder Samuel Williams, John Edgar Davidson, Jr., Gene Arthur Davidson, Hugh Davidson, Sr., Wesley “Mickey” Davidson, and Tom William Davidson; sisters, Martha Davidson Hobbs, Beulah Mae Davidson, and Dianne Davidson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his sons, Darryl Smith of Dallas, TX, Richard Smith (Lynn) of Angleton, TX, Adam Troy Davidson (Nancy) of Brazoria, TX, Ernest Ray Smith of San Antonio, TX, Christopher Brock Allen of Bay City, TX, and JaJuan Brian Schreck of Garwood, TX; daughters, Demetias White of Corpus Christi, TX, and Vanicia Davidson Hanks of Bay City, TX; a brother, Solomon Ray Munir Davidson (Edwina) of Angleton, TX; sisters-in-law, Lillie Jean Davidson of Houston, TX, Irene Davidson of El Campo, TX, and Ruby Lee Williams of Pearland, TX, 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; a devoted nephew, Gregory Williams, Sr. of Dallas, TX; special nieces, Marsha Simple of West Columbia, TX and Sharon Brown (Joe) of Bay City, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Lance Thompson Damonric Smith Cedric Smith Robert Davidson Brian Davidson Chuckie Austin.

Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. There will be viewing on the day of the service from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be no viewing afterward.
