Funeral services for Doris Fletcher Davis Heard, 101, of Palacios and later relocated to Missouri City, will be Saturday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 209 Lucas Avenue, Palacios, TX, with Pastor Eric Young officiating and Rev. Leroy Monroe eulogizing. Burial will follow at Palacios Cemetery in Palacios, TX.
She passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in Sugarland, TX.
Doris was a devoted member of Pilgrim Rose Baptist Church. She was a member of The Eastern Star, NAACP, Lions Club, Palacios Hospital Board, Board of Elder Citizens and various other organizations.
Gardening was her hobby and she was in the quilting guild.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Fletcher Long Davis; husband, Johnnie L. Heard; daughter, Wanda Kay Heard; son, James Michael Heard; brothers, Paul Davis Penrice and Ernest Doc Davis; sisters, Martha Long Davis Williams, Elsie Mae Davis Heard and Thelma Lee Davis Bradshaw; great-grandsons, De’Angelo D. Washington and Julius Cockrell and best friend, Dora Lewis.
She leaves to cherish memories of her, two daughters, Ernestine Heard Edwin, Houston and Fletchie Heard Washington (Henry), Missouri City; son, Johnnie Earl Heard, Lake Jackson; one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Heard, Freeport; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandchild, best friend, Alice Polk and a host of other relatives.
Active pallbearers will be Brian Cockrell, Ronnie Heard, Rodney Washington, Grant Heard, Margwyn Miller, Eric Heard, James Bradford Heard, and Odis James Haynes, Jr.
Visitation will be same day of service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
