Funeral services for Deacon Frank Fields, 87, of Brazoria will be Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria with Rev. Otis Petteway, III eulogizing and Pastor G.R. Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Fields Paradise Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.

He passed away on March 3, 2021 at his residence.

He was a lifelong member of Greater St. Paul Baptist church where he was a deacon and former chairman of the deacon board, former Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, brotherhood president and former choir president. He was a board member of Brazoria Heritage Foundation, Brazoria American Legion, treasurer of Brazoria Men and Women of Action, George Washington Carver No. 235, 33rd degree mason of Brazoria Lodge 104, member of Charlie Brown High School state basketball championship in 1950 and 1952, member of Charlie Brown Alumni Association, chaplain of Coastal Funeral Directors and Morticians Association and Drum Major Recipient of Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee.  He was the first black baseball coach in Brazoria.  He was the first black person to work at Dow Chemical Company and worked there for 31 years before retiring. After retiring he started working at Dixon Funeral Home as a funeral attendant until he retired. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Korean War.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family. His greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his wonderful and loving memories; son, Chedvrick Tims, Brazoria; daughters, Bess Simple and Gewanda Fields both of Brazoria and Velda Petteway (Otis, Jr.), Bay City; special niece, Hannah Williams, Brazoria, godson, Henry Nelson, Brazoria; bonus sons, Adrian Higgins, Sr. (Erica), Pearland and Steadman Baines, Brazoria; bonus daughters, Jamesse Keese, West Columbia and Liz Bates, Freeport; special granddaughter, Chell Baugh, Rosharon; goddaughter, Darla Dunlap, Brazoria; special sisters, Birdell Davis, Missouri City and Verdell McCray, Houston; good friends, Victor Wiggins (Jody), Killeen, Rev. Cornell Ward, Houston and Donald Morgan, Brazoria; grandchildren, Chandra Fields, Jesse Simple (DeQuincy), Andreience Fields (Tremayne Mayo), Ramonna Simple (James Woodard), Kira Randon (Taj), Clennon Fields (Tiara Davis), Otis Petteway, III (Sheika), Zaundria Shanklin (Jason Scott), Chevon Tims (Tyrone George), Taylor Johnican, Jr. (Cassidi Hutchins), Tyrollis (Sha) Mills, Cherena Bolton, NaKia McGee, Stephanie Wooten (Calvin) and Adrian Higgins, Jr., 42 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Don Morgan, Richard Tims, William Davis, Sr., George Davis, Jr., Bobby Flannel and Marvin Flannel.

Visitation will be Friday, March 12, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. There will be viewing at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
