David Ray Masters, 87, of Brazoria, passed away on June 1, 2025 in Lake Jackson. He was born in Gallatin, Tennessee, on January 14, 1938 to Zeb and Lera Masters.
He was a member of Church of Christ in Freeport.
He proudly served his Country with honor in both The United States Army and The United States Airforce. A true patriot, he dedicated many years to military service, where his courage and commitment, and leadership earned him several awards, including National Defense Service , Army Commendation Medal , Good Conduct Medal (2 times) Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w DVC 60 , Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/ Palm, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Airforce Commendation Medal and Airforce Outstanding Unit ward W/1 Bronze OLC
David lived a life marked by deep devotion—both to his country and, most of all, to his family. He began his journey of service in the U.S. Air Force in September 1955, faithfully serving until 1967 with pride and quiet strength. After his initial service, he worked in the public sector, but his heart remained with those in uniform. In 1970, he answered the call once more—this time with the U.S. Army—and was deployed to Vietnam.
It was there, amid the challenges of wartime, that he found something truly extraordinary: love. David met Phu Thi Do, the woman who would become the center of his world. He brought her home to Texas, and in 1972, surrounded by family and love, they were married in the Church of Christ by his brother, Thomas Masters, a minister. It was the beginning of a beautiful life built on faith, commitment, and unwavering love.
Together, they raised three beloved children—Nguyen, Thomas, and Davida. David was a proud father who cherished his children deeply, always striving to give them not just what they needed, but a home full of warmth, guidance, and unconditional love. He continued serving in the Army until his retirement in 1978, but his most honored role was that of a husband and father.
David had a quiet, steady presence that made everyone around him feel safe and cared for. He was a provider in every sense of the word—offering not just security, but wisdom, comfort, and love that never had to be spoken aloud to be felt.
His legacy is etched into the lives he touched, especially in the hearts of those who knew him—not just as a veteran, but as a deeply loving husband, a proud father, and a man whose gentle strength will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeb and Lera Masters; sister, Betty Lucky; brother, Thomas Masters and nephew, Donald Dickson.
David leaves precious memories with his wife of 53 years, Phu Thi Masters of Brazoria; sons, Nguyen Masters (Vonica Chau) of Arlington, Thomas Masters (Crystal) of Waller; daughter, Davida Clark (Charles) of Houston; sister, Linda Dickson (Howard) of Tyler; brother, Jim Masters (Joan) of Missouri City; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home at (979) 798-9113.
