Damara Smith Obituary

Funeral services for Damara Devon Smith, 37, of Brazoria will be on Good Friday, April 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria with Pastor Raymond Simmons, Jr. officiating and Bro. Devin Lemon eulogizing. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.

She passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Damara attended school in Sweeny ISD and also in Columbia Brazoria ISD. She graduated from Columbia High School in 2004. During school, she won medals by participating in many activities for Special Olympics such as basketball and track. She was also great at winning carnival games. Damara loved to read and learn about people and history. She had an incredible mind and an impressive ability to remember dates. She will always be remembered for knowing EVERYONE’S birthday and making sure that she wished them the best on their special day. Damara also enjoyed bowling, shopping, going to the movies, getting gifts for others, “…… Tyler Perry movies and shows, Grandma Holla, Black History, Dallas Cowboys and babies.”  Above everything, Damara loved her family most of all. One day while driving down the road with her sister Tamara, she accepted Christ. Damara would spend her final months of life in San Antonio, TX with her sister, father, and nieces (K'Jhan and Tyra). She loved visiting San Antonio to be with her sister and was cared for dearly by many of Tamara’s extended church family all the way until her final moments.

Damara is preceded in death by her mother Ethel Mae Smith; Grandmothers: Rhoda Smith & Emily Smith; Grandfathers: Lemon Jack Smith & Gus Smith Aunt: Linda Smith; Uncle: Jackie Smith; Special Cousin: Willie B. Jammer; and Special uncle: Thomas Lemon, Jr.

 She leaves to cherish her memories her Special mother & aunt: Berniece Smith (Brazoria); Father: Calvin Smith (San Antonio); Sister: Tamara Smith (San Antonio); Nieces: K’Jhan Willer & Tyra Willer (both of San Antonio); Special Niece: Angel Rae Tucker;  Aunt: Patricia Lemon (Sweeny); Uncles: Robert Smith, Alonzo “Stormy” Smith(Lois Faye)- both of Brazoria, Charles Smith (Elaine)- Huntsville; Cousins: Robert Smith, Jr. (Atlanta, GA); Christopher Smith (Brazoria), Tarsha (Beatrice) Jackson (Fulshear), Gerry (Sherron) Austin (Angleton), Rhonda Woodard, Ronald Woodard (Lenora)- both of Brazoria, Jon “Chuck” Smith (Huntsville), Michael Smith (Dallas), Dale Lemon, Devin (Asheria) Lemon, Durell Lemon- all of Sweeny, Disa (Lee) Pharr (Houston), Dedra (Christopher) Frazier (Pearland), Diona Lemon, Ashley Lemon- both of Rosharon.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Paul Ward, Artorra Duplechain, Michael Willer, Thomas Hollis, Durell Lemon, Barrell Morgan, Shedrick Johnson and Viontre Lemon.
