Claudene Bohlar
Claudene Bohlar was born in Avery, TX on June 18, 1939 to Myrtle Mabel and Claude Lester Smith. She passed unexpectedly at home on June 25, 2020, exactly one week after her 81st birthday. A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to later-be-determined following her cremation and a change to current health recommendations.
Claudene attended college at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. After college, she worked at Bottom Dollar department store until meeting the love of her life, James. The two of them then moved to West Columbia where they raised their daughter, Donna and owned and operated The Furniture Mart and dabbled in the real estate market. She was a member of the First Baptist Church as well as the Columbia Garden Club and could tell you almost anything you wanted to know about plants and flowers. She was active in her church bible study and greeted everyone around her with a warm hug and a smile. Claudene’s greatest joy was in her Lord and Savior followed closely by the joy she found in her grandchildren, Jemma, Jaden and Jaxen. After retiring and moving to their forever home on the San Bernard River, Grandma was blessed to have her children and grandchildren living right next door. She was a wonderful mother to her daughter and son in love, Donna Bohlar-Schroeder and Dakota Schroeder. She was also a loving and devoted wife of almost 50 years to her husband, James Nathan Bohlar, who passed away 7 months ago.
Claudene is preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: brothers, Mangus Smith, Magel Smith, Earl Smith, and Larry Smith; sisters, Nonnette Smith Hammett, Norma Louise Smith; nephew, Ronnie Hammett; great niece, Kloey Wickens; great nephew, Josh Kaufman and her loving husband, James. Left to mourn her loss are many loving family members, best friends Bonnie Pruitt, Mary Thayer, Sue Mann, many friends that had become family and a community who will fondly recall her endless stories, kind ways, generous nature, servant’s heart and contagious laughter.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria at (979) 798-9113.
