Funeral services for Charlie Johnson, 69, of Angleton, TX will be Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Dixon Funeral Home, 2025 E. Mulberry St., Angleton, TX with Apostle R. L. Simmons Jr., officiating and Pastor Ronald Simple, eulogizing. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
He passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at his residence.
Johnson played college football at the University of Colorado. He is a former professional American football player who played nine seasons in the National Football League. He played in Super Bowl XV for the Philadelphia Eagles, was drafted in 1977, and was selected to three Pro Bowls. He later played for the Minnesota Vikings.
While in the Army, he served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.
He was retired and enjoyed fishing and watching old westerns on TV.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Ben Carrie Johnson; mother, Anna May Grice; stepfather, Melvin Grice, Sr.; and brother, Clayton Lee Johnson.
He leaves cherished memories with his sisters, Linda Anderson (Henry) of Lake Jackson, Judie Simmons (Raymond) of Angleton, Deborah Grice of Angleton, Melvin Jean Beasley of Angleton and Sybil Mason (Donald) of Atascocita, TX; brothers, Ben Johnson of Angleton, Michael Johnson and Gregory Johnson (Linda) of Raywood, TX; good friends, Herman Fields “Honcho”, Willie Myles “Whistle”, and Bubba Autry; and a host of other relatives and friends.
