Cecil McElveen, Sr. Obituary

Cecil McElveen, Sr., 77, of West Columbia passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.  He was born January 27, 1947, in Angleton, TX to Cecil and Florine McElveen.
 
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Vietnam Huey helicopter door gunner of the 25th Infantry “A” Company “Little Bears”. During his active service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge (M-14 rifle), Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Marksman Badge (M-16 Rifle). Lastly, he was the recipient of the Hometown Hero Award.
 
Cecil retired from Mundy Companies in December 2009 after 30+ years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite pastimes included collecting and selling scrap metal, traveling with family, tractor work, and piddling around his yard and shop. He had a passion for military Jeeps, Huey helicopters, and his John Deere tractor.  He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Cecil was known for his big heart and generosity. He loved helping family, friends, and even strangers in any way he could.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry McElveen.
 
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine McElveen of West Columbia; Son, Cecil McElveen, Jr. and wife Shelly of Brazoria; Son, Steven McElveen and wife Robyn of West Columbia; Daughter, Margaret Womack and Scott Booth of Sweeny; Brother, Walter Wood of Pershore, England; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Active pallbearers will be Jamie McCarty, Mark McElveen, Dustin Head, Gregory Hudgeons, Dusty Strother, and Willie Lowery.
 
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria with Pastor Bob Hankins, officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow at Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia, TX.
 
Visitation will be on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria.
