Funeral services for Benjamin Backman, Sr., 73, of Freeport will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Freeport, TX with Pastor Michael Dwyer officiating and Pastor Xavery Hutcherson, eulogizing.  Burial will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery in Brazoria, TX.

He passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Kindred Hospital Sugar Land in Sugar Land, Texas.

“Benny” was a Sr. Deacon at Agape Full Gospel Church.  He was a commercial fisherman who enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, cooking and fishing.  Spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren was his greatest joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marian Backman; sons, Anthony James Hill, Wilbert Raymond Hill; daughter, Alisa Hill; sisters, Dorothy White, Francis Backman; brothers, Carl Backman, Primus Backman, grandson, Jeremy Hill.

 He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Backman, Freeport; sons, Benny Backman, Jr., Angleton, Timothy Hill (Katrise), Lake Jackson, daughters, Dawyna Backman of Pasadena, Lakisha Backman  of Freeport, Angela Lemons (Hubert), Missouri City, Sonia Glass (Kenneth), Lake Jackson, brother, Raymond Backman (Peggy), Lake Jackson; sisters, Eula Mae Pryor (Danny), Charleston, S.C., JoAnn Grant, New York, God daughters,  Shunta Monique Antwi (Steven) League City, Nia Woods, Houston, Shalanda Austin, Bay City; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Dedicated friends Joe and Stella Campo of Freeport TX.

Active pallbearers will be Franklin Carl Williams, Roydrick Hill, Jamal Mack, Sir Backman, Terroll Hill, Bayon Hobbs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Backman, Jr., Raymond Backman, Timothy Hill, Kenneth W. Glass, Troydrick Hill, Michael E. Hill, Thaddeus Backman, Sr., Ervis Hill, Wilbert Hill, Theron Jones, Aquarius Bryant and Melvin White.

Visitation will be Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria with a wake from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A viewing will also be at the church from 11:00 a.m. to service time.
