In Loving Memory of Audrey Elaine (Homburg) Druse  (July 10, 1939 – June 10, 2026)

Our beautiful mother, Audrey, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, in Angleton, Texas, after a brief illness of two and a half months. Her passing fell exactly one month before her 87th birthday.

A Life of Independence & Strength of Purpose Born in Madison, Wisconsin, to Archie and Amanda Homburg, Audrey grew up in the countryside outside of Cottage Grove. She lost her father to a tragic accident at the tender age of two, a loss that ultimately shaped her into a strong, independent person. As a child, she loved to spend time perched high in the trees outside her house reading.

She remained an avid reader her entire life. Dystopian novels were her favorite before her eyesight declined. Afterward, she spent her days listening to stories on YouTube and enjoying her favorite vocalist, Dimash Qudaibergen, a singer from Kazakhstan with an incredible seven-octave range.

"Where There is a Will, There is a Way" Audrey had a beautiful voice, though she didn’t think so. A childhood choir director once told her she would only ever sing backup. It was probably the only time someone told her she couldn't do something and she actually believed it! Mom truly lived by the mantra, "Where there is a will, there is a way." When she set her mind to something, there was no stopping her.

At 18, she moved to Milwaukee, working as a hairdresser's receptionist (loving the free hairstyles!) and attending the Patricia Stevens Modeling and Finishing School. (Because of this, my sister and I know exactly how to properly set a table and walk with a book balanced on our heads!) She later became a ballroom dance instructor at Arthur Murray's, and she met Charles "Chuck" Druse. A mutual friend introduced them after telling Chuck he knew a girl who was "just as much a smart aleck" as he was. They fell deeply in love and married, December 29, 1962.

An Army Wife & Career Woman Chuck’s 20-year military career took them all over. Lynn was born before they left Wisconsin, and they went on to live in California (where Laura was born), Hawaii, Washington State, Okinawa (allowing her to travel to Taiwan), and back to Wisconsin while Chuck was deployed to Vietnam and Korea. They finally landed in Copperas Cove, Texas, where Chuck retired.

They then put down roots in Houston to raise their family. Audrey became a bookkeeper and a network administrator right when computers were invented, remaining in that profession until retirement. Later in life, she moved to Angleton to be close to family.

Faith and Family Audrey was a dedicated member of the Worldwide Church of God and later the Church of God's Faithful. A true highlight of her life was traveling to England for the Feast of Tabernacles and staying extra time to visit long-lost relatives in Norway—it was the trip of a lifetime. Later in life, Audrey was also beautifully reunited with a daughter she had put up for adoption in her youth, Karen Von Allmen, along with Karen's husband, Scott. (Karen preceded her in death).

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles Druse; her daughter, Lynn McLaren (partner Ronnelle "Ronny" Joyner); her granddaughter, Amanda (husband Cy McKey); and her great-grandchild, Carson McKey. She is also survived by her daughter, Laura (husband Clayton Coldewey); grandchildren, Taylor Ray, and Chris Coldewey (partner Randi Richardson); and her beloved feline companion, Kat.

A future interment with Charles by her side will take place at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin.
