The Life and Legacy

of

Willie Bobby Lee Goods

“Billy”

September 12, 1934 – September 30, 2017

Willie Bobbie Lee Goods was born to Alfred and Ethel Pope Good, forty five miles south of Houston, in the small town of Velasco, Texas, the fourth of their five children. His parents established their permanent home in Clute, Texas. Rearing their children in a Christian home, as members of the True Honor Baptist Church, Willie was nurtured in his early Christian training and development, attending Sunday School, Baptist Youth Training Union, Sunday Worship Services, and Tent Revivals. He accepted Christ at an early age and throughout his life loved hearing good teaching, preaching, and gospel music, especially the music he labeled those good ole songs.

Upon completion of elementary school, Willie transferred to the O'Hara Lanier School in Freeport, TX. It was there that he met his best friend and future wife Lou Joyce Lowe. Willie matriculated at Prairie View A & M College. In 1958 he enlisted in the United States Air Force.

Billy and Joyce were joined in holy matrimony on February 8, 1958 and lived for a brief stay in Puerto Rico. After a four-year tour of duty, Willie was honorably discharged from the military. Willie, Joyce, and their children - Millard, Julie, and Bobbie - relocated to Los Angeles in 1962, their family was complete with the births of Terence and Yolanda. Their home was always a safe haven for their five children, their friends, and extended family members.

Willie retired from two careers in public service: a 30-year career with the United States Post Office and a 20-year career in the County of Los Angeles, Department of Mental Health; having joined County services as a time-limited, temporary employee, under a federally funded grant program following the Civil Unrest of 1993. The dapper, always well-dressed ''Uncle Bill" retired from public service for a final time on January 15, 2014; Following retirement, he and Joyce enjoyed traveling, sharing time with family and friends, and worshipping and serving God in their family church home of 55 years, Faithful Central Bible Church.

Willie was known by many names and titles: At church he was an Ordained Deacon, Front Door Usher, and a member of the Men's Bible Study Class. His loving wife Joyce of nearly 60 years called him Billy; his children called him Daddy; Brother Bill to close friends and relatives; Uncle Willie, Uncle Willie Billy, Uncle Daddy Willie to a host of nieces and nephews who loved and revered him as a second father. The Military mistakenly altered his surname from Good to "Goods"; but, it was clear that the name he most treasured was that of "Pa Pa" beginning with the birth of his first grandchild, Briana. To him, each of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the prettiest, the most handsome, the most
talented, and the smartest. He treated them all with such endearment that each knew that he or she was his favorite and
enjoyed a relationship with "Pa Pa" that no one else in the world had shared.

…And thus the Life and Legacy of Willie Bobby Lee Goods.

His parents, Alfred, Sr. and Ethel Good, and his siblings: Alfred Good Jr., Gladys Campbell, Audrey Thompson, and Roosevelt Delano Good - - all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Lou Joyce; his specially beloved 98 year-old Aunt Thelma Kitchen; his children: Millard Tyrone Goods, Ju1ie Darlene (Calvin) Lawrence, Bobby Joyce Greer, Terence Dean (Jannie) Goods, and Yolanda Denise (Lorenzo) Gaines; grandchildren: Briana Monique Lawrence, Brian Monte Lawrence, Millard Tyrone Goods Jr., Terrell Goods, Shaun Perry, Thomas Goods, Elizabeth Noel Armstrong, Reese Justin Greer, Ruth Jasmine Greer, Aladrian Noel Goods, Angela Janae Gaines, Lorenzo Julian Gaines, Norma Loren Gaines, Thelma Gaines, Terrance Alexander Gaines, and Terence Christopher Goods; great-grandchildren: Nile Elizabeth Brown-Lawrence, Nuri Elise Brown-Lawrence,
Nigel Goods, Maleigha Brielle Crane, Aniyah Leigh Brinkley, Zaria Roxianne Woodard, Sabrina Goods, Heaven Goods, and Angel Goods, sisters-in-love: Norma J. Lowe Cook and Sula Lowe Baye; brother-in-love: Millard Leon(Barbara) Lowe Jr., a grateful host of nieces and nephews; and his childhood best friend and cousin Frank Bates Jr.
