Funeral services for Shelby Jean Harriest, 77, of Brazoria will be Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria with Pastor Booker T. Randon , eulogizing and Elder Roland Hendricks, officiating. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.
She passed away on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
She was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board. She loved to cook and get her hair done. She was an avid shopper and traveler. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Luther Cross and Lutherine Taylor; daughter, Deborah Jean Hills; sisters, Yvonne Cross and Barbara Reese and special cousin, Johnny Britton.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories; husband, William Harriest, Brazoria; daughters, Sonya Harriest, Houston and Vickie Williams (Michael), Lake Jackson; sons, Franklin Brown , LaQuinton Williams and Shionton Cross all of Brazoria and Vincent James (Stormy), Angleton;; brothers, Billy Patton, Atlanta, Georgia, Herbert Mitchell (Vera), Michael Taylor (Annie) and Ralph Taylor all of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; sisters, Catherine Sesson (Ernest) and Rosa Michelle Jemison (Wilson) both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Wanda Cross (Robert), Houston, Gwen Cross (Darryl), Newark, New Jersey and Keisha Taylor, Atlanta, Georgia; brother-in-law, William Reese, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Marvin Jones, Terry Mack, Alden Woodard, Anthony Mack, Vernon Jones and D’Andre Scott Good.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
Visitation will be Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria. A wake service will follow at 6:00 p.m. There will be viewing at the church on the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be no viewing afterward.
