Robert D. Cummings
R.D.
Robert D. Cummings, 78, of Brazoria passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018. He was born in Carroll Springs, TX, on January 22, 1940 to John and Helen Cummings.
R.D. as he was affectionately known had great love for his family. He was a devoted husband who cared deeply for his wife of 56 years, Barbara. He loved his daughters and spent countless hours worrying about them and telling them to call him when they got home. He had a way of making each of his “grandbabies” feel as though they were his favorite, they were loved and they were special. In fact, each grandchild was banned from visiting toy and electronic departments with Papaw R.D. He was also mischievous. He taught each grandbaby how to sign his signature ‘just in case they needed it.” To have known R.D. was to know someone who loved, cared deeply and gave freely with no questions asked.
He was a proud retiree from Phillips petroleum having worked there for more than 20 years. He would often point out a gas station and say, “I made that.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Cummings; brother, Kenneth Cummings; sister, Faye Herriage; uncle, Charlie Chism and grandmother, Annie Chism.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Barbara Cummings of Brazoria; daughters, Deborah Ray and husband Philip, Robin Paul and husband Robert, all of Brazoria; grandchildren, Hannah Barrier of Houston, Tabitha and Rachel Ray, both of Brazoria and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Carroll Springs Cemetery, 5810 CR 4600, Athens, TX, at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. B.F. Flowers officiating.
Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria. (979) 798-9113.
