Funeral service for Pastor Phillip Smith III, 54, of Brazoria, will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Mount Zion Church, 6437 FM 521, Brazoria, TX with Pastor Jonathan Taylor officiating and Pastor Kenneth W. Bree eulogizing. Burial will follow at Galilee Cemetery in Brazoria, TX.
He passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital in Pearland, TX.
He was the Pastor of Better Days Ministries in Brazoria, President of the A.S. Johnson Congress of Christian Workers, a member of the Southern District Association and he served faithfully as an associate minister at the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brazoria for over twenty years. A graduate from Columbia High School Class of 1982, he also attended New Mexico Highlands University where he played football. Phillip worked for Nestle Waters for 23 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, watching sports, hunting and barbecuing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Smith, Jr.; sister, Sharion Higgins Parker; grandparents, Nathan Lewis, Sr., Katie Lewis, Texanna James, Phillip Smith, Sr. and Dorothy Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memories mother, Eliza V. Smith, Angleton; sisters, Melody A. Higgins and Virginia T. Smith both of Angleton; brother, Gerald W. Smith (Mary), Angleton; special friends: Marvin Jones, Brazoria, Elroy Griggs, Angleton, Kevin Brown, Danciger, Shonda Marshall, Lake Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Mack, Tai Randon, Adrian Higgins, Jose Millan, Kenny Thompson and Clayton Fields.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald W. Smith, Elroy Griggs, Andrew Parker, Jr., Marvin Jones, Kevin Brown and Kevin Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, October 5, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a wake service from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton. Viewing will take place at the church on the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be no viewing afterward.
