Funeral services for Mary A. Smith, 71, of Sugarland, formerly of Houston will be Monday, August 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Windsor Village Church Family, 6000 Heatherbrook Drive, Houston, TX with Rev. Jason Saddler eulogizing. Burial will follow at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX.
She passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Houston, TX.
Mary was the past owner of Whistler Hotel Bed and Breakfast. She was a great conversationalist who enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking, black history, dancing, listening to jazz and blues and visiting her family and friends. She was a member of the Shape Community Center, Circle of Friends and the Democratic National Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Ennis Ray, Sr.; husband, Robert Smith; brother, Ennis Ray, Jr.; brother-in-law, Toby Wilcox and sister-in-law, Jewelene Ray.
She survived by her daughters, Donna Phillips (Elric), Humble, TX, Keisha Jones, Kingwood, TX; sisters, Freddie Thomas, Houston, TX, Erma Ray, Dallas, TX; brothers, Miller Ray (Cherra) and William Edgar Ray, both of Houston; brother-in-law, Monroe Eddie Smith (Donna Carol) of Houston; sister-in Laws, Carolyn Dia of Washington, D.C., Monica Razo (Emilio) of Lake Jackson, Lurissa Trevino (Michael) of Lake Jackson, Shirley Smith of San Bruno, CA; and a host of close friends who were near and dear to her heart; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton.
