Funeral service for Lois Helms Riccard, 67, of Dickinson, formerly of Brazoria, will be Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church in Clute with Rev. Gloria Cash Sam officiating. Burial will follow at Mims Cemetery in Brazoria, Texas.

She passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at her residence after a long hard fought battle with cancer.

She attended George Washington Carver High School and graduated from Sweeny High School in the class of 1968. After graduation she attended Brazosport College and received a degree as an LVN.  Her nursing career lasted over 35 years.  She worked at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1988-2013.  Lois was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family but her grandchildren were very special to her and she would do whatever possible to ensure their well- being. Her favorite hobbies were reading the bible, inspirational books/quotes. She also loved to play bingo and go to the casino from time to time with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her mother; Sophie Lee Thompson; father, Shelton Helms; grandparents; L.E. and Delilah Thompson, Aaron Helms, Sr. and Elizabeth Helms; aunts, Mamie Taylor, Frankie Brown and Mabel Brown; uncles, Archie Thompson, Woodson Thompson, Sr., L.E. Jr., Albert Thompson, Roosevelt Thompson and Aaron Helms, Jr.

Leaving to mourn her passing a very devoted son; Terrance Riccard (Nancy), Dickinson; daughters, Monica Deniece Johnson and Joy Lynett Caldwell both of Houston; sisters, Tresa Thompson, Brazoria and Thelma Franklin, Houston; brothers, Albert Helms, Rosharon and Pastor Anthony Smith, Sr. (Florida), Bay City; aunts, Rose Green of Clute and Martha Helms of Houston; grandchildren, Erica Helms, Kenesha Johnson and Cataleya Riccard;  great grandchildren, Stephanie Williams and Kyler Bell;
special friends and cousins, Jack Brown, Woodson Thompson, Ricky D. Thompson and Beverly Hatchett and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Donald Taylor, Kjhary Kuykendall, Ron Jackson, Moran Collier, Jr., Larry Brown and Albert Helms, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Terrance Riccard, Albert Helms, Sr., Andre Thompson, Michael Thompson, Roy Brown and Pastor Anthony Smith, Sr.

Visitation will be Friday, July 21, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home, 2025 E. Mulberry, Angleton, Texas. There will be viewing at the church on the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be no viewing afterward.
