Betty Jo Schwebel Oakes

Betty Jo (Schwebel) Oakes 74, of Brazoria passed away peacefully on March 21, 2018 in Houston Hospice with her family by her side. She was born on April 19, 1943 in Bay City, TX. to Jody and Vera Schwebel (who preceded her in death).

Betty graduated from West Columbia High School in 1961. After graduating high school she went to Durham Business School in Houston. She later went to work as a key punch operator, Owned and operated Brazoria Farm & Ranch Supply and Veras Flower Shop. She also worked at Brazoria Actions. Her favorite career choice was truck driving. She even taught truck driving classes at Brazosport College in the late 90’s. Driving all over the country was a love of hers. The other big loves in her life were her family, fishing, camping, and watching the Texans play football and the Houston Astros baseball team. She was actively involved in the Lake Jackson Jayceettes.

Betty is survived by her Daughters, Donna Shetters of Brazoria, Dinah & husband Jeremy Stalker of Brazoria; Grandchildren, Coley McGough & husband Josh McGough of Brazoria, Crystal Felkins of Austin, Courtney Shetters of Stephenville, Hunter Shetters of Brazoria, Rex Stalker of Brazoria, Kyle Stalker of Freeport, Kaylen Stalker of Clute; Great Grandchildren, Riley and Marshall McGough of Brazoria, Carter Taylor of Clute; Brother, Bob Schwebel and wife Tissie Schwebel of West Columbia; Nephews, Rodney, Darrel and Marty Schwebel and a host of other relatives and friends.

She will be missed by all that knew her. 

Memorial services will be on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Fellowship and Cowboy Church, 208 Lazy Lane, Brazoria, TX.
