Van "Donnie" Don Hawkins

Funeral services for Van Don Hawkins, 65, of Angleton will be Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 501 S. Brazosport Blvd, Freeport, TX with Pastor Ondre Waddy, officiating.  Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery.

Donnie was a Brazosport High School graduate in the Class of 1970 and was a member of the Iron Horse Men’s Motorcycle Club, Wildcat Social Club and a Trustee at First United Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, camping, riding horses and spending time with his family.  Van was honorably discharged from the Air Force.  He was also a diehard Houston Texans fan. He retired from Dow as a Chemical Operator after 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Hawkins, Sr. and Lucy Hawkins.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Johnitha Hawkins of Angleton; sons, Steve Hawkins (Michelle) and Xeomad Hawkins both of Austin, Xeomer Hawkins (Lori) of Temple, and LeUnta Hector (Kisha) of Willis; brothers, Charlie Hawkins Jr. (Shirley) of Freeport and Joel Hawkins (Deana) of La Marque; sister, Eursella Johnson of Freeport; brother-in-law, Andre Hector (Beverly) of New Waverly, TX; best friends, Curtis Phillips of Richwood and Odell Moses of Atlanta, GA; special friends, Mr. and  Mrs. L.D. Strambler of Freeport; 9 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Hall, Ondre Hall, Joe Overshire, Martin Sonnier , Dewey Lemon, Anthony Julian, Kenneth Blackmon, Kenneth Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Hawkins, Gavin Hawkins, Jarmen Hawkins, Vandon Hawkins, Courtney Johnson, Charles “Bookens” Hawkins, Freddie V. Darthard, L.D. Strambler, George Roberts, Simon Virgil, David Daniels, Flem Preston, Sam Washington, Odell Moses, Curtis Phillips and Andre Hector.

Visitation will be Friday, August 11, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home, 2025 E. Mulberry in Angleton.  There will also be viewing at the church from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the same day as the service.  There will be no viewing afterward.
