As supervisor of Obstetric Nursing at Brazosport, during 1977, she played a significant role in starting to allow husbands in the Labor Room during their child’s birth, and in implementing the use of fetal monitoring for all pregnancies.
Suzy was a woman of many talents and interests. She married Philip in 1980 and they fostered a back-to-basics living style, including milking two cows, making cheese and butter, and preserving multiple food items. There was always a hearty vegetable garden. They raised sheep, shearing the wool; which Suzy spun into yarn and wove on an 8- harness loom into useful items. She gave wool spinning demonstrations at many public events.
Her passion in life included horses. There was always at least one in her life from childhood until her death. She offered horse-riding therapy for special need children, and hosted school classes for a hands-on introduction to horses.
Survivors include her husband Philip; aunt, Miriam Tolar; son Wayne Thatcher and wife Susie, and granddaughter Rebecca Watts and husband Richard, and grandson Brandon Thatcher; daughter Julie Maroul and husband Keith, and grandson Heath Maroul; son
Craig Cyr and wife Leta; daughter Laura Dean and husband Terry, grandsons Aaron and Philip Dean; son Jeff Cyr and granddaughters Julie Munoz and Kim Cyr, son Steven Cyr and wife Barbara and grandson Jordan Cyr.
At her request no public services will be held. Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria at

I was sad to hear of Suzy's passing. I know the last few years have been difficult. She truly was a special lady and I know she will be missed by you.
My husband and I were recently remembering Suzy at one of her spinning demonstrations at The Center of Arts and Sciences years ago and how amazing it was that the two of you raised and even birthed (is that the right word?) lambs, and went through the entire process of sheering, spinning and weaving. Amazing. What a wonderful life partner with many unique, special memories.
I know she will be missed. Please know my thoughts are with you my friend. Please call or stop by for a visit if you are in town. I'm still at the same place.
Your friend,
