Funeral Services for Maceo Smedley Sr., 58, of Manvel will be Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Missionary Baptist Church, 324 S. Ave G, Freeport, TX with Rev. Ondra Waddy officiating and Rev. Ricky Campbell eulogizing. Burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, TX. He went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at St. Luke Hospital in Houston, TX. Maceo graduated from Randolph County High in 1968. He continued his education at Texas College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He received his Master of Science from North Texas State University in Denton, TX in Education Administration. During his educational career, he was a Biology teacher at Gainesville State School. He retired as an assistant principal at Brazosport Independent School District after 30 plus years of service. He also worked as a substitute school teacher for Brazosport and Pasadena ISD. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and a member of The Promise Church in Houston, Texas where he served on the leadership committee. He also served as a former trustee at First United Missionary Baptist Church. His love for children and working with the youth in the community inspired him to coach little league and flag football. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda Smedley, Manvel, TX; sons, Maceo Weldon Smedley, Jr. (Shante`), Anthony Maurice Smedley (Lisa), both of Fresno, TX; daughter, Felicia Crawford (Gerald), Pearland, TX; mother, Mae Dell Gates, Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Grant Crawford, Maceo Smedley III, Gavin Crawford; brothers, Rudolphus Gates, Roanoke, AL; sister, Barbara McClendon, Cincinnati, OH; father and mother-in-law, W.B. and Evelyn Berry, Five Points, AL; brother-in-laws, Larry Berry, Atlanta, GA, Weldon Berry, Five Points, AL, Ronny Berry (Carol) , Clarksville, TN; sister-in-law, Abigail Bonner (Walter), Five Points, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends. Active Pallbearers will be Gerald Crawford, Kenneth Ford, Jr., Melvin Williams, Troy Lacy, Dwain Wiley and Anthony Bonner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Promise Church Brethren, Todd Bowie and Jermaine Crick. Visitation will be Friday January 22nd from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home, 2025 E. Mulberry, Angleton, TX. Viewing will also be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. There will be no viewing afterwards. Final Arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Angleton, TX.
